Throwing is a Jcraft Mechanic that Stands can use by holding down the pick block button (Default=Middle Mouse Button)

If a block is thrown, it'll be placed on the floor unless specified otherwise below.

If an item is thrown, it'll act as a dropped item.

Items thrown will bounce off blocks depending on the angle their thrown and the hardness of the block they're thrown at. The lower the hardness, the higher the bounce.
